Design and construction of outdoor living spaces

First and foremost we design gardens of color, form and texture. Foliage is the dominant and most permanent element. Flowers are ephemeral accents. The changing light and shadow of each day and season are taken into account. Scale and proportion are important considerations.

Other elements incorporated into our gardens are movement, sound and fragrance. Besides the limber stalks and stems that quiver in the breeze, there are blossoms to entice butterflies and hummingbirds to dine. There is the shimmering flow of water, from the barely audible trickle in a quiet courtyard to a splashing cascade near a busy street. We have the good scents to put a Breath-of-Heaven along a path or place a Daphne by a doorway.

Accessibility is drawn into the plan. Walkways, patios and decks are strategically placed. Building materials are carefully chosen for their beauty and durability as well as their appropriateness. Everything must enhance the whole.

Besides being beautiful and charming a garden must be friendly. It has to be able to function as a livable space, an extension of the home. The demands made on time and resources should be kept at a comfortable and manageable level.

The goal is to enjoy life.
